Let's talk about the olympics.

Ready, Go!

i've got all kinds of complaints and complements.

NBC's coverage sucks. I want to see more than just the U.S. Medal contention events.

I really think the age limit should be raised. The ladies gymnastics reminds of george balachine's ballet dancers, younger and younger as the coaches get older and older.

I've give my left you know what to have more football coverage, especially after all the coverage that the euro cup got this summer.

Men's gymnastics is amazing. More so even than the girls gymnastics, which i think i way overhyped.

yeah, lots of complaints, posted 14 Aug 2008 at 12:32 UTC by pedro » (Tourist)

The coverage is really annoying. It's like they're going for a reality tv approach with lots of drama played up in the commentary, and pumping up the visual effects, etc., but at the same time its like they almost don't care about watching the events. They meander along between events they're covering simultaneously like its a Sunday drive.

And I agree about covering only US contention events. Add to that list only the US athletes in the US contention events.

If you haven't read about the gymnastics age limit issues, look up articles about China's issues. Their girls do not look 16, and their papers don't quite add up.

As lukas said, the gymnastics coverage by NBC is terrible. So annoying. It makes me want to mute the television.

The more this Olympics unfolds, the more skeptical I am about Beijing having been granted the Olympics in the first place. I guess Moscow got their Olympics too and the USSR was arguably worse than China, but it's a different age. I guess again on the other hand the IOC isn't supposed to be partisan, but with the environmental and liberty issues happening, etc., it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The athletes are amazing however -- it is still fabulous to watch and I love the Olympics.

Xinhua says 13

wrestling, posted 14 Aug 2008 at 13:54 UTC by neoacerbitas » (Fixture)

I did some investigating into the swedish wrestler who left his medal behind, I watched the match on the distributors website, but it had no commentary. I guess I really just don't know much about greco-roman.

I agree, I love the olympics, enough that i'd watch no matter how bad the commentary or the coverage got. But this is ludicrous. I there isn't even an accurate schedule of what events will be on tv, not the olympic page, nor the nbc page (wrong times), not even titantv (not event specific). If you know of one, let me know what it is.

Those chinese girls, there's no way they're all 16, i'm happy to know that i'm not the only person that knows a kid when i see one.

i'm kinda getting over the gay innuendo that get made between to correspondants

innuendo?, posted 14 Aug 2008 at 15:17 UTC by pedro » (Tourist)

Like what?

i guess , posted 14 Aug 2008 at 19:21 UTC by neoacerbitas » (Fixture)

innuendo might not be thee right word, is that evne how it's spelled? There have been two occasions where these two guys and this girl are talking together and these strange comments come out, and i can't quote, but it's stuff like "i bet you like how those [men's] swimmers suits fit" or today was for some reason one guy put his arm on the shoulder of the other and the girl said she was leaving cause there was too much man love going on.

I'm sure there was a comment or two when the giant wrestler guy was on, but i don't recall.

coverage, posted 15 Aug 2008 at 13:19 UTC by smax » (Fixture)

Wait, there are more events than swimming, gymnastics and volleyball? You'd never know it watching NBC.

amazing!, posted 15 Aug 2008 at 19:16 UTC by neoacerbitas » (Fixture)

thanks so much for that!

Of course the US got knocked out of soccer, but that's how it goes. I'll see what i can do about catching some of the rest of it. I would like to see some of the shooting sports, we did medal, after all.

boring, posted 17 Aug 2008 at 10:21 UTC by baggins » (Fixture)

sorry, but it's all boring to me. except women's volleyball. it makes me think of a David Foster Wallace quote from somewhere about how if the girls could hear the silly noises they made when they were exerting themselves at their sport, they'd just cut it out right there.

hehe, posted 17 Aug 2008 at 11:12 UTC by neoacerbitas » (Fixture)

that's funny.

one of the local news stations has a headline on their website "did shawn johnson win a medal? spoiler alert event has no aired yet" and in the next column over with olympics news "shawn johnson wins silver"

investigation, posted 21 Aug 2008 at 21:09 UTC by neoacerbitas » (Fixture)

looks like there is going to be an investigation into the age of the chinese gymnasts. :D

Also, an american got a bronze in some running thing today by diving over the finish line, i don't know how fair that is. It was a running event.

so they're over, posted 24 Aug 2008 at 07:56 UTC by neoacerbitas » (Fixture)
