Last night I saw Insomnia. It is definitely one of the best I've seen thus far this year. I've seen the Norwegian original also. This version was a good translation. They cut out some scenes from the Norwegian original which, in some cases, was a good thing. Watch the original and the new version and you'll see what I mean. I would definitely recommend watching the original, though. On a different note, I had a tremendously gluttonous Memorial Day. Let's just say that I ate more than a pound of meat and drank more than a few beers to wash it down. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......meat. Gluttony aside, though, I did think a bit on what the day means. On Sunday evening I watched a show on PBS recounting the recollections of veterans of the Korean War. It is always fascinating to me to see men, old men, talking about experiences they had when they were my age that are of such violence and horror that when they start talking about them-even today-they cannot go on, the emotion of it catches up with them and they are rendered powerless by it. It makes me feel guilty that I didn't vote and that, generally speaking, I don't want to vote. But voting seems to be a a very big part of how we can, in this time of relative peace, honor those who defended our freedom in times of war. So anyway, that's the view from here.
Hi...I woke up an hour late this morning. Not that it really matters. I just feel a little more fatigued than usual. Two nights in a row of getting to bed at 1am. For those of you who know me, that's definitely not a good thing. Although I am standing up under the 'strain' pretty well. Today is a good day, so was yesterday, we'll see about tomorrow.
