Pedro, my advice on LA:

1. Get the AAA LA Freeway flip out map. It's a lifesaver until you memorize all the freeways.

2. Two of my friends just moved down there from SF, Daryl & Alice. They are the folks who taught me Catan and Puerto Rico. I don't know if you remember them from visiting here or not. Anyway, you guys should get together and have a Game Night South. They were regular attenders of our weekly game nights up here, and I know they miss it. Daryl is a terrible game addict!

3. Also, allow twice as much time as you think you need to drive anywhere.

That's all.

Wow, everyone's going to school, including me! I start my project management class in a few weeks. It'll be good to learn about what I'm supposed to be doing at work now.

In other news, I have the best beau ever, and while I was down in Mexico for a few days (for a friend's wedding), he bought and installed a clapper for me. It's something that I've wanted for *years.* I'm so happy!

inkblot, be careful about coming to SF with debt. Yes, you'll make more money here, but also your expenses will be much higher than they are in the mid west. Also, alot of jobs right now are down on the penninsula, not in the city. So, you may not want to get rid of your car... unless you dig a 2 hour each way Caltrain / BART / bike commute, etc.

That said, get your ass out here!!! :)

Okay, I'm excited to have tickets for a Gillian Welch show in October. I'm very *not* excited about the $7+ service fee per ticket. Grrrr.

I'm sitting in the Buffalo airport waiting for my flight to Chicago, which is delayed due to weather in Chicago. And it's my birthday. wooooo.

I've had a cell phone for most of my system administration career. I've also had a pager for all of it. Right now my cell phone doubles as my pager, since I hate carying both around. My cell phone also allows me to dial up when I'm away from a network connection, and I have to do something vital to a system. So, it's pretty much a necessity for me. I also use it quite often to call coworkers when I get paged, or when I need help with a problem.

That said, I think cell phones can be annoying, mostly because the people who use them are annoying. I think driving and talking on a cell phone is dangerous. I try not to be the annoying person on the cell phone. And I do like the convienence of having one.

O'Hare. I didn't realize there was another airport. I think we should be back at the airport by 4:00 to get through security again. And I'm open to any kind of food. Some place that's perhaps typical Chicago would be good, since this will be my only impression of your fair city until the day that I take a proper vacation there....

Okay, I need some advice from all you Chicago folks. My beau and I are flying from Buffalo to San Francisco via Chicago on August 4th (which is my birthday.) We originally had a 1 hour layover, but were just informed that our first flight was changed, and we now have a 4 hour layover. (From 1:19 pm to 5:00 pm, if both flights are on time.) So, we were thinking we could leave the airport and go into Chicago (which neither of us have ever seen) and have lunch or something. So, where should we go? What would you tell 2 people with roughly 3 hours to spend in Chicago to do?

stan, I suggest getting a massage, sitting in a hot tub as often as possible, taking up both yoga and meditation, and (the best relief) getting rid of your stress. Of course if you can't get rid of the stress, it's important to learn to manage it. Our western culture likes to pile on stress without giving people any tools to learn to deal with it. This sucks.
