It takes dogs and cats a good day or two to come out from under anesthesia...plus cats tend to want to hide when any sort of unusual trauma happens to them. If the huge pupils and not eating persist for another day or so, call the vet back. And also, don't assume the cat is not eating just because you haven't seen her eat, leave fresh food out where it can get at it, and it may emerge when it thinks it's safe and nibble at it.

Sadie, will they give you bereavement leave? With the nuptials impending, that would strengthen your argument...also, is Parker a union shop?

WEll, took the Wrigley Field guided tour today. Arrived in the Cubs clubhouse (more about this later) in time to see the attendant packing Sergio Mitre's locker, having cleared Mike Remlinger's stuff already....

Was a great time, and a great birthday present from my wife, who also enjoyed the tour. Having read on players complaints about how cramped the facilities are, it was still surprising to see how tiny they are in truth.

And how the story of Sammy and his assault on the ears with stereo salsa music gained such proportions. One stereo turned up to Way Too Loud in that clubhouse would have instantly become a topic of dissenssion amongst the ranks....

The Cubs clubhouse is tiny, and can obviously not accomodate everyone on the tour especially since you are restricted to a tiny corner of it. Behind us there was a man and his two sons--in front of us an elderly gentleman was just starting to make his way down the second set of stairs, to which the man behind(sorry Phil, wearing a Red Sox cap) began to grumble when it was obvious that A.) had the elderly gentleman completed his descent, there were 30 other people crammed into that small amount of floor space, and B.) he wanted us to move faster and knock over the gentleman. He then solved his problem (which he had created in the first place by lingering in the bleachers with his sons to take pictures and call gawd-knows-who on his cell phone) by telling his two sons, one of whom was taller than and wider than me (it's not hard to be taller than me, but it is quite a feat to be wider than me) to "shove up there". Which they then proceeded to do, past elderly folks, and two couples with young infants, who were on the stairs, as there wasn't enough space for all of us.

Is anyone else (who's still bothering to read this far) noticing that there's a general malaise of "I-want" going around?

The tour was great--save that our high school guide was making mistakes like confusing the opponent in the '84 NLCS as the SF Giants. He was constantly being corrected by the permanent stadium security guy who accompanies the tour guide--who knew far more about the stadium and was generally better to talk to than the guide himself, who seemed clearly to be wanting to be somewhere else. I guess doing tours like 14 a day on an away day makes some of the bloom come off the rose, but the guy was an idiot. If you're going to tell the story of MLB demanding that the Cubs get lights after the '84 NLCS couldn't be played under the lights, forcing a 3 of 5 set in San Diego, know that it was SAN DIEGO in the '84 series, not SF, who were the Cubs' opponents in 1989, the first playoff series ever played in Wrigley under the lights. (and there were other glaring mistakes like this.)

But the place is beautiful.----although I can see the Cubs eventually throwing in the towel, and moving to a new stadium somewhere--or incorporating the old one into the new...
