so, i was playing this game tonight. of course, it started a long time ago with the theory that with any actor out there, you could go movie to movie with their costars and get to Kevin Bacon in 6 moves. i've seen some pretty impressive ones done (blvdgirl going from Bruce Campbell to K.B. in like 3 moves or something crazy... for example). but its more fun to just pick 2 actors out that seem like they'd be far away and try to get there.
an example would be: Melanie Griffith to Guy Pearce. Griffith - Celebrity - Famke Janssen - Rounders - Matt Damon - Good Will Hunting - Ben Affleck - Dazed and Confused - Parker Posey - Basquiat - Christopher Walken - Suicide Kings - Dennis Leary - Ice Age - John Leguizamo - Moulin Rouge - Ewan McGregor - Trainspotting - Robert Carlyle - Ravenous - Guy Pearce.
make them as simple as you can. i will suggest 2 actors to start. then someone finish it, and suggest the next 2. movies only. no TV connections. movie cartoons count if the actors did voice work for the film.
Jane Seymour to Neil Patrick Harris. GO!!
by the way, did any of you know that John Ratzenberger was in Empire Strikes Back? im not a SW geek, so maybe its obvious to you guys. i dont remember it though... IMDB rules.
ulyssess00 was in The Postman with kevin costner who was in JFK with kevin bacon.(i know that this involves a bit of rule breaking because 1) JFK is viewed as a bit of a cop-out, and 2) i am not listed in the credits for the postman because i was only an extra. however, i DID get personally "directed" by costner himself.)
. . .Jane Seymour was in a movie?
Jane Seymour - Quest For Camelot - Gabriel Byrne - Stigmata - Patricia Arquette - Lost Highway - Bill Pullman - Independence Day - Will Smith - Men In Black - Tommy Lee Jones - The Fugitive - Harrison Ford - The Empire Strikes Back - Billy Dee Williams - Undercover Brother - Neil Patrick HarrisIf anyone can come up with a shorter chain, let's hear it.
Here's one: Harland Williams to Audrey Hepburn.
http://www.cs.virginia.edu/oracle/star_links.html
from will smith you would go - Will Smith - Made in America - Whoopi Goldberg - Clara's Heart - Neil Patrick Harris.
Harland Williams - The Whole Nine Yards - Bruce Willis - Bandits - Cate Blanchett - LOTR: TTT - Viggo Mortensen - The Prophecy - Christopher Walken - America's Sweethearts - Alan Arkin - Wait Until Dark - Audrey Hepburn.
ok... Ice Cube to Sissy Spacek.
i knew no movies with jane seymour, but since welcome helped out, it wasnt too bad...five degrees. I dont remember mean guy's name though...he's in every movie ever made, though.seymour - quest for camelot - byrne - Usual Suspects - Will Baldwin - Sliver - Sharon Stone - Total Recall - Mean Guy from Total Recall - Starship Troopers - Doogie
Cube - Friday - Chris Tucker - Jackie Brown - Sam Jackson - Pulp Fiction - Travolta - Carrie - Sissy
Harland Williams - Whole 9 yards - Kevin Pollack - Usual Suspects - Kevin Spacey - Glengarry Glen Ross - Alan Arkin - Wait Until Dark (One of my favorite suspense movies ever) - Hepburn
you have to suggest the next one.
Jane Seymour - Somewhere in Time - Theresa Russell - Wild Things - Denise Richards - Starship Troopers - Neil Patrick HarrisIce Cube - Boyz in tha Hood - Laurence Fishburne - King of New York - Chirstopher Walken - Blast From the Past - Sissy Spacek
Harland Williams - Whole Nine Yards - Kevin Pollack - Grumpy Old Men - Walter Matthau - Charade - Audrey Hepburn
Here's the next one... it's a little tougher ... Syndey Greenstreet (Casablanca, Maltese Falcon) to Haley Joel Osment
That Sydney guy - Your Clue - Ingrid Bergman
Bergman - Murder on the Orient Express - Sean Connery
Connery - Avengers - Uma Thurman
Thurman - Gattaca - Jude Law
Law - A.I. - Osment
there's gotta be a quicker link between connery and osment, and im dying because of it.
"Weird" Al Yankovic to Marilyn Monroe
thinking about weird al to marilyn monroe made me think about other things...try Weird Al to Orson Welles in 4 moves.
sean connery - the rock - james caviezel james c. - pay it forward - haley joel osment
Curses!
Sydney Greenstreet in Casablanca
Humphrey Bogart in the African Queen Katherine Hepburn in Love Affair Annette Bening in American Beauty Kevin Spacey in Pay it Forward Haley Joel Osment...but the Connery way is a bit shorter....
Weird Al - Naked Gun - Leslie Neilsen - Poseidon Adventure - Roddy McDowell - Macbeth - Orson WellesOk, here's we go again....Ginger Rogers to Peter Facinelli
I have no clue who peter facinelli is
If you wanted to count Jennifer Love Hewitt's role as Audrey Hepburn as an Audrey Hepburn link I could do it right now, but since that probably isn't allowed I will have to think about it....
Question- why do the connections have to seem so obscure? I mean, I guess it's no fun if someone puts an easy easy one, but come on, we aren't all film experts.
I thought those were somewhat recognizable names; Peter Facinelli has been in quite a few films in the last couple of years but doesn't have a recognizable name yet. Here's an easier one (or at least more recognizable):
Jerry Lewis to Jim Carrey
i knew who he was. they don't necessarily have to be obscure. but the link between the 2 shouldn't be *obvious*. at least, it seems more fun that way. so blvd... wanna refresh us on Bruce Campbell to Kevin Bacon again?
Bruce Campbell in Army of Darkness with Bridget Fonda
Bridget Fonda in Point of No Return with Dermont Mulroney
Dermont Mulroney in My Best Friends Wedding with Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts in Flatliners with Kevin Bacon
I believe that is how I got there that one night in ARA; however, there might be a shorter route by this time... I'll have to think about it.
I didn't mean to whine... I don't mind the hard ones so much. But, I want everyone to be able to play.
there's a little known actress named Embeth Davidtz (not sure if I spelled that correctly) who was in Army of Darkness with Bruce Campbell and Murder in the First with Kevin Baconstill waiting on Jerry Lewis to Jim Carrey
Jerry Lewis - King of Comedy - Robert Deniro
Deniro - Meet the Parents - Ben Stiller Stiller - There's something... - Cameron Diaz Diaz - Mask - Carrey
Kareem Abdul Jabbar to Michael Jordan
I got it, Wags. I got it! Melanie Griffith to Guy Pearce in ONE DEGREE!Melanie Griffith - Working Girl - Kevin Spacey - L.A. Confidential - Guy Pearce.
C'mon is that cool or what? As for Kareem and Jordon -- weren't they in Space Jam together? I dunno, I refuse to watch Space Jam, so I have no idea. The Jim Carrey to Jerry Lewis will be figured out soon. I need to meditate on it to get the right degree(s). I'm somewhat of a savant at this game. Did I spell savant right. Oh, who cares. I rock!
It's fun to try to connect yourself to famous actors as well. I'm sure most of you can do it, too. For instance my high school science teacher, Steven Koehler, was in an episode of the short-lived television series The Untouchables with John Rhys Davies. Thusly, I am connected to every cast member from Lord of the Rings by like two degrees. John Rhys Davies connects me to every actor from Harrison Ford to Chuck Norris to Jerry O'Connell. Hows about that? You guys must have some cool ones, too.I can even take an alternate route to Lord of the Rings. My gf Heidi is best buds with Laura, who met Elijah Wood in a bar in L.A.. Bam, as Emeril Lagasse says.
During the GenCon convention in Milwaukee a few years back I met Admiral Motti from Star Wars (you know -- Vader finds his lack of faith disturbing -- yeah, him), Richard Leparmentier. He was a nice guy. We talked about how hard his action figure was to find, and he claimed that even he had a hard time tracking one down. I also met Jerome Blake (he was like 5 characters in Episode 1), who was a bit more gruff, but still nice to me personally. With both of them I am connected to everyone in both the old and new Star Wars movies by only one degree. Crazy, huh? Once again I am connected to Harrison for by 2 degrees... odd.
I was an extra in a Mel Gibson movie... that puts me one away from a bunch of people....
I remember when I first became familiar with the concept of 6 degrees of separation- the idea that within six connections each person touches everyone else on the planet. My dad had lunch at the White House (while Papa Bush was President) cause he fixed up a little problem that Mrs. Quaille had had with one of her security staff while roaring drunk.... Anyway, one of my teachers told me about the whole six degrees thing and said I was now only two degrees from every major political player in the world... I was in junior high- I thought that was so cool!
Which one was roaring drunk?
shhhhh.
Jim Carrey - Dumb & Dumber - Lauren Holly - Sabrina *AND* A Smile Like Yours - Greg Kinnear - As Good As It Gets - Helen Hunt - Mr. Saturday Night - Jerry Lewis*Greg Kinnear & Lauren Holly were in two movies together
Joan Chen to Malcom Jamal-Warner in 6 or less.
I don't know if HBO movies count, but they should since alot of HBO movies are a whole lot better than regular movies...if so:
Joan Chen -- Some really terrible bi-love triangle movie with Anne Heche and Christopher Walken in it whose name I forced myself to forget long ago -- Christopher Walken
Walken -- True Romance -- Dennis Hopper
Hopper -- Apolcalypse Now -- Laurence Fishburne
Fishburne -- Tuskegee Airmen (HBO Movie) -- Malcolm Jamal-Warner.
Otherwise, I've never known Malcolm Jamal-Warner to be in a non cabletv/tv movie
Kareem wasnt in Space Jam...so Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Jordan is still alive
The "Mean guy" from Total Recall/Starship Troopers is Michael Ironside. Don't ask me how I know that. He's the poor man's Jack Nicholson.
Anna Paquinn to Sir Alec Guiness. Why does that sound easier than it looks?
He did the voice of black ops man Sam Fisher in the Ubisoft game "Splinter Cell" (which is a Tom Clancy Joint).
So I used the imdb a little bit to poke around... but I didn't have a computer do the work for me:Kareem Abdul Jabbar --> Julie Haggerty (Airplane)
Julie Haggerty --> Bill Murray (What About Bob?)
Bill Murray --> Michael Jordan (Space Jam)
Wahoo!
Max Casella to Neal Patrick Harris (without using Doogie Howser).
(again with imdb's help but my own researching... is this cheating?)anna paquin --> pete postlethwaite (Amistad)
pete postlethwaite --> ian holm (hamlet)
ian holm --> alec guiness (kafka)
Not to worry Pedro Pedroson. Everyone does alittle digging on those web sites, but I did get that one degree Melanie Griffith to Guy Peirce thing without aid of any web sites (fake applause). For the others I found the web site meninfilm.com and it's sister site (no pun intended) chixinflix.com helpful.
The only movie that I know of that had Max Casella in it was Newsies. However, Christian Bale and Bill Pullman were in that with him, which is probably a good beginning to get him to Doogie somehow...
Neil Patrick Harris - The Next Best Thing - Madonna - A League of Their Own - Bill Pullman - Newsies - Max CasellaThanks to Blvdgirl for the Newsies tip.
Now try Roger Moore to Cuba Gooding Jr. (why do mine always seem easier than I think they are?)
SPICE WORLD!Yes, that's right:
roger more -> hugh laurie (spice world) hugh laurie -> john cleese (the secret policeman's third ball) john cleese -> cuba gooding, jr. (rat race)
I'm a good researcher... but i'm an awful movie watcher. I just really don't see that many.
How about something interesting, like:
Buster Keaton --> James Van Der Beek
stanley kramer will be the death of me!
I think there should be an honor code for people not to use the imdb...otherwise there's really no point in doing the game. That's just my opinion though
Thanks for the Stanley Kramer reference...though he made way too many damn movies, he was pretty much only famous as a director for these two, and it still sucked to find a link within six.
Buster Keaton -- Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (+/- a mad) -- Spencer Tracy
Tracy -- Guess Who's Coming to Dinner -- Sidney Poitier
Poitier -- Sneakers -- James Earl Jones
Jones -- Star Wars(this counts, right?) -- Carrie Fisher
Fisher -- Jay and Silent Bob -- Van der beek
Chow Yun-Fatt --> Gedde Watanabe
ok, i don't think its bad form to use imdb for some things. but its not that fun if you don't think of the chain yourself. so, here are some good guidelines, i think, for fair use of IMDB:
- if you don't know who the heck somebody is, check out their pic on imdb, or one of the 2 sites posted above by OI.
- if you *know* the movie, but just can't think of the name of it. i think its fair, and you know in your heart if you're cheating. besides, there's no reason to cheat...
- ideas for the next challenge
and for the next one:Vin Diesel to James Cagney
Now that the diner's very own mercurymouth will be in the film "American Pie 3" it might be fun to try and connect her to the furthest reaches of the actor pantheon. As far as I know everyone from the first two Pie movies will be in attendance. Everyone here knows mercurymouth, right?Mercurymouth -- John Stamos
Mercurymouth -- Djimon Honsou
Mercurymouth -- Andy Garcia
This ought to be interesting.
mercurymouth -- American Pie 3 -- Jason Biggs -- Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back -- Matt Damon -- Ocean's Eleven -- Andy GarciaThere's one down, but I think I overdid it with John Stamos. He was supposedly in Private Parts, but that connects him to no one. Wait, isn't Paul Giamatti in Private Parts?
about mercurymouth. I'm kind of surprised... not that she should get a role, as she is probably one of the most talented people I have ever met, but that it would be in American Pie 3... life's mysteries... Congrats, laura (if you read this)- just remember that I loved you and thought you were brilliant before you hit the big time.
mercurymouth--American Wedding--Jason Biggs--American Pie 2--Mena Suvari--Beauty Shop--Djimon Honsou
Cary Grant -> Lindsay Lohan
mercurymouth--American Wedding--Jason Biggs--American Pie 2--Mena Suvari--Beauty Shop--Djimon Honsou
Cary Grant -> Lindsay Lohan
you guys are really funny! i don't think being an extra in the opening (foul) scene of that movie counts, but...okay? i guess you can tell it's me, but hopefully not that much. it's not my proudest hour. the redeeming part of the whole experience was that i (sort of) met thegreatmr.robertzimmerman's son, who directed.
