well, i suppose maybe i like making new entrees. but it seemed like this post deemed one necessary. this is the place to post for birthday action.
mine is coming up soon on the 29th. i'm going to see Clutch on the 28th, and i have no idea what my work schedule is going to be that week. but i'd like to do something with all the cats. i'm not big on planning much for my own birthday. but i don't have a problem suggesting perhaps a night at Moody's like we did for PAP2. so, what night that weekend works for y'all. the particular date is on a thursday, so if the weekend works better for everyone, that's cool.
let me know.
also, K.Wiberg's birthday just occurred wednesday. perhaps we could celebrate his as well? and now that i think of it, B.Smith's birthday was yesterday (thurs). so, is a small bash in order?

to maybe do moody's on friday night (since thursday isn't really a good night for these things.) but we didn't put together the fact that redvinegar was playing that night. so we are unofficially moving the celebration to the same night. kill 6 birds with 1 stone, kinda. so, come and get you faces rocked, and celebrate 24 years of my shining face on this planet. or whichever you prefer. if you really want to buy me a beer on the actual day of my birthday, tony jops will be in town, which means it is likely that we will end up at the wood that night. i'll try to be around Victoria's that evening, maybe. who knows.

Sorry it wasn't what you were hoping for. I never know what to expect for birthdays, but always build them up internally so that I am often dissappointed by them. And, yes, 24, felt hugely old!
I used to avoid telling people it was my birthday; I just wanted them to know through osmosis or detective work. But, I think I've outgrown that. Hooray me! 26 big fat years old today!

July, 19th, 2003.Schaumburg is playing the Kansas City T-Bones (a.k.a. the Duluth-Superior Dukes). I'm going out for baseball on my birthday, and you're all invited.
Ticket prices should be reasonable, I think between $8-15 or so, and concessions are cheaper than at Wrigley. It's a grand old time. As things get closer, I'll talk more about it, but for now, keep Friday, July 19th open... again, anyone who wants to come is welcome to come.
I plan on wearing my Dukes paraphernalia and cheering for the team that no longer exists.
This saturday night, anyone and everyone that's interested in seeing a baseball game on my birthday is welcome to come. I'll be driving my van, and I'm sure that other people will drive too, so if you're interested, please email me. Tickets are cheap, and it's fun at the old ballpark!Please email me if you're interested so we can work out transportation. Gametime is 6:20, so we should leave AT LEAST an hour early, and... it's FIREWORKS NIGHT!

yeah I can't wait for the lower insurance, it did drop when I got married, but the drop at 25 is even bigger.
that's the best ever. plus renting a car isn't a major hassle after 25.
last time I tried to get one from Avis, they said they weren't going to rent it to me, but then the manager realized that I didn't make the reservation and my travel agen from work did and then they said it was ok because it was a corporate rate. I was about to get real pissed, they got lucky.
i'll be 25 on the 29th of this month. i hadn't even thought about the insurance/renting cars advantage of 25. i always thought that 25 was way too old and i would never get there so i never even worried about it... scary.
I turned 25 last month and was really freaked out about it...then realized it's just a number and doesn't really matter. But as Marilyn Monroe says in "Gentleman Prefer Blondes," (or some Marilyn Monroe movie), "25--makes a girl think..." In some ways the birthday did feel significant to me, and set off a chain of events involving my trying to do some things in my life I've needed to for while, like change jobs and get back into school.I don't know what I'm trying to say--but enjoy it and I'll have to see you in the next month so we can celebrate.

Every seven years my birthday lands on Labor Day, as I was born September 1, 1977. Whenever my B-day lands on a Monday everyone is given a vacation to celebrate with me. Too bad there wont be any festivities this year, as I am far too poor.My mother always claimed that she went into labor on Labor Day. If that's true, why am I turning 26? Shouldn't it have landed on my 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th birthdays? Am I wrong about the every seven years thing, or did my mom lie about me being born on Labor Day? I could swear my birth certificate said I was born on a Monday, but who knows? Anyone good with numbers and dates?

There are a fixed number of different "calendars" in the Gregorian calendar. I think it's either 12 or 14. I can't remember. In other words, there are only X number of different "day/month/date number" combinations -- only X number of different days that September 1st falls on. More interestingly, the pattern does not repeat itself in an immediately visible pattern -- and certainly not in a fixed seven-year cycle (especially not if there are 14 calendars!).So, while this year September first falls on a Monday (Labor day), in seven years it does not.
What's particularly interesting to me is that September 1st did not fall on a Monday in 1977.
This is a great link, although since it only goes from 1900 to 2005 it only shows 7 of the possible calendars (because only those 7 show up in this date range). This site also makes it easy to see where other years fall in relation.

There are 14 different calendars in a perpetual calendar. 7 for starting on each day of the week in a normal year, and 7 for starting on each day of the week in a leap year.

Not really. I mean, of course it can be done. But probably not any time soon, and it (for reasons that don't matter to most of the patrons) won't be a part of the actual virgule code (the diner's actual code base, which I did not write).SO basically, someday. But don't hold your breath.

I would never take anything you say as derogatory, my friend. I'm glad you know him well enough to say that--because it's absolutely true. Flowers are nice, and beautiful, and I think it's kind of sad that only women are "supposed" to receive them. When you find Ms. Right, I will make sure to tip her off...I still don't know what to get, though, and Sep. 1 draws nigh. I'm thinking money, because my poor LOML is jobless and broke right now and trying to move back to the city, but that seems kind of impersonal and gauche. Don't you think?
i don't know. if $$ is what he needs, then it might not be a bad gift. i mean, if it will help him get back here, and he would accept something like that... orf you could offer to buy him groceries/make him dinner for the first month he's here, or something. something to help ease the financial burden yet not cold hard ca$h... know what i mean?

i'll be coming up to George's around 7:30/8ish. i have no idea what is going on yet, but some people have been contacted. feel free to show up if you want to come out or say hi. but don't feel obligated.
Hernando's birthday was yesterday, 9/1, and he (actually "we," but it wasn't my birthday) had a really, really cruddy day. Mostly due to a family crisis which left us with less than two hours of sleep, and everyone was exhausted and in a bad mood.We tried to salvage things by going out for a nice brunch, but there wasn't anywhere open or with seats available due to Labor Day and Harleys overrunning the city. Basically, it was one of the worst days he has had in a long time, and on his birthday no less. (I guess I am allowed to whine vicariously for him?). I left on the 3 o' clock train after a cranky day together (I was cranky anyway, he is the most even-tempered person I know so he didn't show it as much), then his whole family was gone all day without telling him where they were. It was kind of weird.
Sorry to whine. I just felt bad for him, and want to make it up to him somehow. He is coming down to Chicago this weekend, so if anything cool is going on, do tell. I want to try to have a belated celebration of some kind.
i'm sorry to hear that, H. isn't LL supposed to be in town this weekend? it would be lovely to see you 2 and her and whoever else.

it was pretty cool. spent the day w/ Jackie and my parents and my sister. we had a good meal, then we chilled, then I finally got Jackie to pose for me to take some pictures of her in the backyard. then we had some cake and i opened a few presents and then we played Seafarers of Catan. then we chilled some more, and I just snuggled by Jackie for a while. it sucks, though. she starts school in the morning, and she has an extremely busy schedule for nursing school and then her job, and so we're only going to get to see each other once or twice a week at best. and that sucks. but we'll make it through.we can't wait to be married, whenever that may be.
