There are things in this world that you think everyone should do at least once before they die. It might be something grand like donating one of their kidneys, or it might be something small like eating real butterscotch. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as you think that everyone in the world should do it at least once before they die.
But I think that everyone (especially in the West) should see Hotel Rwanda... it presents a lot of realities (albeit in a movie-ized form) that just don't really have a basis in our daily lives and aren't very well expressed on the six o'clock news.
I think that everyone needs to spend some time outside of their comfort zones and experience another culture. It makes you appreciate what you have, respect other people, and realize what you should change about your life.
i agree with BigJ. and at one point, live outside the place you were born (whether that means travel, as BigJ pointed out), or an actual relocation. i've been in chicago almost 9 years. it is very, very different than the place i was born/grew up. it's not the place for me, but it's an awesome city and i am glad for the growth and independence being away from my family provided.of course a semester in england (or scotland would be okay), really REALLY makes me want to spend the rest of my life there. i hope RNs are in shortage in the U.K. as they are here, which gives me a better chance. that's a dream i'm working on.
i think everyone should attempt to learn to play a musical instrument at some point. like give it at least 3 months of applied study/lessons before giving it up (if you give it up).
i know that many of us here have done this and more, but certainly there are many who haven't. i think that everyone should spend a week in the wilderness away from any signs of human presence and with only the things that can be carried with.
Own a pet.
something you wouldn't expect of yourself.
I'd like to take a cruise up to Alaska and then drive back through Canada and the northern US. I'd like to do the driving part with my dad.
it is a worthwhile enlightenment to have worked
or be working in the service industry
[waiting tables, cleaning rooms, etc.]
allow yourself to love so fully that you manage to get a small glimpse of the world through the eyes of our Father and feel the deep heartache for communion with all souls. Amen.
