chef-in-a-box, posted 3 Jun 2004 by lukas » (Fixture)

the *-in-a-box are knid of complicated to make. YOu need to make a chef skull first which is a smart skull + disembodied brain = braniy skull. brainy skull + chef's hat = chef skull. Then you need to make the box a nothing-in-the-box by adding a spring. Then combine that with the chef's skull and you have a chef-skull-in-the-box which when combined with the oven will give the sought after chef-in-the-box. The bartender=in-the-box is similar, just beer goggles instead of the chef's hat. Beer goggles are made with beer lenses which you get from adventuring in the typical tavern after you clean out the rats. It helps to have the liver-of-steel beforing spending much time in the typical tavern.

This game rules. Okay, the spicy burrito is WAY WAY better than the regular burrito. I wish I could find some hotter peppers to make it insanely spicey!

I think I'll go to Baja fresh for dinner now.

I've got a third character - wanted to try a theif type. It's harder to gain levels with her but she's got spices! I'm starting to see why people pay so much for them.

If anyone needs a white picket fence or a scarecrow for their campsite let me know. I've not stuck em in the clan bin because I don't know if anyone needs em.

The jabanero peppers are in the hermitage -- this means you need the hermit permit and the worthless gewgaw (or trinket), which can be kind of expensive, both turnwise and monetarily.

however,, posted 3 Jun 2004 by pedro » (Staff)

If you're mining the sewer and you're happy with spices or trinkets, your odds increase somewhat, i guess.

take that clover immediately to the spooky forest and get a bowl of lucky charms. eat the bowl of lucky charms and get a leprechaun hatchling. put the leprechaun hatchling in your familiar-gro terrarium and get a leprechaun. leprechauns get you more meat when you adventure with them.

And Dex you can send me the white picket fence or scarecrow if you want, I'll take any campsite stuff I can get, but I won't be doing PVP battle for a little while yet.

Right now I am trying to figure out the mysterious leaflet, it's got me perplexed, I got a stick, and nowhere to go with it.

The grue is particularly good in the dark -- play the actual zork if you want to find out. He won't fight on full moons -- but is particularly powerful on double new moons.

ten leaf clovers, posted 7 Jun 2004 by welcome » (Fixture)

The hermit had ten-leaf clovers over the weekend so I decided to find out which areas have lucky quests and what the rewards are. Note that lucky quests cause you to lose the clover: if you want to adventure in one of these areas without expending the clover, use it in your inventory to disassemble it beforehand.

Haunted Pantry & Sleazy Back Alley: A chest full of 100 meat. Whoopy?
Outskirts of Cobb's Knob: A pair of Knob Goblin Uberpants.
Cobb's Knob Kitchens: Knob Kitchen Grab Bag. Turns into random kitchen food when used.
Cobb's Knob Treasury: A dense meat stack.
The Spooky Forest: A bowl of Lucky Charms, which may or may not give a leprechaun hatchling when eaten.
The Hidden Temple: Exercises all three stats instead of just one.
The Casino (money-making game): A big rock. Didn't notice any effect in the other games.
The Sewer: Your choice of any three items you would normally find in the sewer.
The Barrel Full of Barrels, Whitey's Grove, Degrassi Knoll, Fernswarthy's Tower, The Misspelled Cemetary, The "Fun" House, Bat Hole (entryway): No quests as far as I can tell.

After that I was all out of clovers. So the Spooky Forest is certainly worth it, Cobb's Knobb Treasury is about a 800 meat profit so that's cool, and the big rock can be used to make a nice weapon early in the game.

Also, I typed the magic word into the leaflet with both my characters and got the stat boosts but no meat. Has this happened to anyone else?

I only have one character, posted 7 Jun 2004 by pedro » (Staff)

it's easy to make money, posted 7 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

all you have to do is get spices, lots of them, or hellion cubes, or dry noodles (which are easy to get), but you have to burn adventures to get them.

Lukas how's your asbestos crossbow? I made some stuff for a random girl today too. Is there any way to smith without using an adventure that anyone knows about?

it's great, posted 7 Jun 2004 by lukas » (Fixture)

plus 7 moxie or somesuch. next up i may have you smith me a chrome helmet turtle. anbd then maybe a chrome meat crossbow, but I need to mine some more ore. I don't think there is a way to make smithing turnless (like meat-smith-in-a-box or something).

also, hellion cubes can be used to make hell ramen which is some seriously bitchin food. a sauceror has to make the broth (with a scrumptious reagent) and a pastamancer has to then make the ramen, but the result is quite nice.

I know, posted 8 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

it is good stuff, it's the best food in the game according to my sources, it boosts every stat and gives adventures, but the components give me meat, which is needed right now.

I need to do some ore getting in the mine, and then get some chrome ore too, especially since the chrome equipment is strong and gives extra adventures, bonus.

s4(sc)(pm), posted 8 Jun 2004 by inkblot » (Fixture)

sauceror seeks seal-clubber and pastamancer for mutually advantageous trade. i, the sauceror Beware of Sausage, will supply components for three portitions of hell ramen. each participant will supply ore and meat stacks as appropriate for equipment of choice. i have already performed the necessary work to produce hell broth, the pastamancer will cook said broth with dry noodles to produce hell ramen, and the seal-clubber will smith each of us an ore-based piece of equipment of our choice. in exchange for this arrangement, each participant will receive a portion of hell ramen and an ore-based weapon.

-- Beware of Sausage

I'm game for that, posted 8 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

I got made meat smitthing abilities. Let me know what I need to do.

ok so I can't type, posted 8 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

let's try again:

I've got mad meat smithing abilities. Let me know what I need to do.

what class are you?, posted 8 Jun 2004 by inkblot » (Fixture)

when i try to smith my ores with various things, it says "Only a properly trained seal-clubber can smith that" or something like that. i probably have pretty mad meat smithing abilities, too, but i'm not the right class. however, as a well-schooled sauceror, i can whip up scrumptious reagents and their derivative sauces like a mofo.

so if you're a seal-clubber, you get to take my and one lucky pastamancer's ores and meat stacks and smith them into gear in exchange for hell ramen which i and the pastamancer will create.

if you're a pastamancer, then you'll get some dry noodles and hell broth from me to make into hell ramen, and you'll give your ores, meat stacks, and big sticks to a lucky seal clubber who will smith them into the gear of your choice. you'll distribute the three finished hell ramens to me, you, and the seal-clubber, one each.

so basically, we each come out of it will one helping of hell ramen and some ore-based weapon. i get a lot of cooking supplies. i could probably make this trade daily.

sounds good, posted 8 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

I am a seal clubber, therefore have the ability to make nice asbestos and chrome objects, which I am slowly doing but finding the dang ores is a pain since they aren't dropped all that much in the mine.

smithing, posted 8 Jun 2004 by lukas » (Fixture)

i was thinking about getting a chrome corssbow and a chrome helmet turtle, but it looks like the chrome crossbow doesn't give a moxie bonus, just a turn bonus. so maybe just the chrome helmet turtle...

nah, you just need an Elemental Saucesphere.

trade is on!

i sent the broth to dex's JuliaBees character, and you should be receiving some ramen and smithee items from her when she gets a chance. what's your seal-clubber name? i'll send my smithee items.

Elemental Saucesphere, posted 9 Jun 2004 by inkblot » (Fixture)

it's a buff that saucerors can use on any character. so far, i've only used it on myself. basically, it gives you the effect of the same name, which lasts for 10 adventures. it wards off some of the damage caused by elementals (fire, cold, spooky, stench, bad spelling, etc).

i typically use it in conjunction with Jalapeno Saucesphere and Sauce Contemplation when i'm heading off into dangerous quarters.

my seal clubber is Locop, posted 9 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

but after he does it if we do it again I'll do it with Lido, they are about the same.

oh well. Now I'm working on getting a pagoda for my campsite. I have gotten a bunch of ten leaf clovers and am searching for good things to get with them, but so far there isn't that much that's good.

Oh, and did everyone but me know that when you get the keys to the hall of records on the Big Mountain you can then pay meat to increase your stats? I just jumped a couple moxie points by donating 3000 meat, well one moxie point, but it was a good one.

As you near the howling gates of the Spectral Pickle Factory, the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Then the hairs on the neck of your back stand up, and it really freaks you out, since you didn't know your back had a neck. The point is this: you're too scared to go into this Factory.

(You must have at least 150 Muscle to adventure here.)

Ah poop. Anyone got a few thousand firecrackers they didn't want? ;)

I need some serious level gaining., posted 16 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

Any suggestions?

At this point all I can do is level up since I've done everything else I can do at level 8. I'll be level 9 in one muscle, but then the jump to 10 is big. Oh well, I'll just have to fight and get lots of food and alcohol and stuff. Maybe I'll waste 50 turns on the hoboflex for a big muscle boost.

leveling, posted 16 Jun 2004 by lukas » (Fixture)

a 20-lb volleyball (mine's named Short Round) and the menagerie at Cobb's Knobb seemed to make leveling go quicker. Side trips to the shore also can give you stat boosts, although mostly I adventure for little paper umbrellas there (which I rarely get).

they rarely give them, posted 16 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

I got lucky and got 12 in a short time, but it was pure luck.

But yeah I was having luck in the menagerie, and also killing Yeti's gives great stats and meat, but they are a pain to kill as I have to heal after every fight, but good old 'Tongue of the Walrus' helps.

oh and the palindome, posted 16 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

Which is hit or miss. Mainly because once I walked in with 45 moxie and 58 strength, and walked out with 60 strength and 42 moxie, kind of good kind of not. It's like the tavern, sometimes they give stats sometimes they take, it's a fine line to walk.

yeah, posted 16 Jun 2004 by welcome » (Fixture)

and that means, posted 16 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

assorted key lime pies, which is totally kick ass.

So, who here has enough stats to get into the pickle factory so we can here just what a pickle does. Apparently it's the new best food in the game and anyone can make it, I can't wait!

it's been a couple days since anyone's posted here, posted 24 Jun 2004 by BigJ » (Fixture)

so here was my latest KOL conquest. I bought 20 ten leaf clovers from someone for 20K meat and then used them to make 10 drink ticket rolls and got 16 gin bottles, 12 vodka bottles, 21 whiskey bottles, 52 ice cold beers, and 16 ice cold foties, if you add all that up I could sell it for WAY more than 20K meat, good times.

All you need is to enter the orcish frat house in disguise with a 10 leaf clover. Sure there are other things I could have done with them, but with them and some adventuring on the shore for umbrellas it's drinking central!
