Well, i didn't want to just throw this in the Rabbit Stew Entree. here is a poll for kicks, regarding LOTR.

  1. What character in The Lord of the Rings do you fancy yourself being? (interpret this however you wish)
  2. What character from LOTR would you most like to spend time with?
  3. What location in LOTR would you most like to live in?
  4. What part of the next 2 movies are you most looking forward to?
  5. How many times have you seen LOTR:FOTR in the theater?
  6. when was the last time you did laundry?

i'll start with my answers, just to get everybody rolling..., posted 1 May 2002 by baggins » (Fixture)

1. Gimli. i find him to be zealous, decisive, bold, hardheaded, loyal, and funny too. i think i have those qualities. i don't really know.
2. Galadriel, hands down. if the Lady of Laurelindorinen is good enough to make gimli an instant lover of the elves, then i think id like to spend time with her too...
3. tough one. Lothlorien would be cool, because that's where Galadriel lives. but id love to chill in Rivendell. and the Shire would be nice and restful, i think.
4. Shelob. i mean, there is obviously going to be a lot of cool things in it (including Eowyn!! as she should be!!). But, the bad guys are pretty key to the whole thing. i was always intrigued by shelob, and just how spider-like she was (spiders kind of freak me out, at least big ones). i think the make-or-break moment for me in FOTR was the Balrog. when i saw that thing, i was sure that the rest of the movies would be great. i almost cried at how good they got it. but i cried about 30 seconds later anyways.
5. 6 times. hopefully i can get out to see the latest TTT trailer before they take it out of the theaters.
6. a while ago. i need to do it again.

And question 6 fits in how?, posted 2 May 2002 by blvdgirl » (Fixture)

1. Eowyn- willful, courageous, loyal, kind-hearted, and a little mixed- up about what she wants.
2. Gandalf
3. Lorien 4. Watching the Ents take down Isengard and frighten Saruman. I'm also looking forward to the taming of Smeagol- as we've hardly had much of a look at him yet.
5. 3 times- also would like to try to catch it again to see the preview of TTT
6. a week ago, I am good for a while

of course it doesn't fit in. , posted 2 May 2002 by baggins » (Fixture)

i just wanted a sixth question.

trailers, posted 30 May 2002 by lukas » (Fixture)

I was disappointed that there was no new trailer for 2 Towers before the Attack of the Clones. I suppose it's stil 1/2 year off. But damnit, I want it now. I also want the extended DVD of FOTR where you actually see Galadriel give them the gifts and the coolio swan boat you can glimpse in one of the trailers.

wrong room i guess, posted 30 May 2002 by lukas » (Fixture)

I would never do well in focus groups. Anway, since I posted, I might as well answer the questions (somewhat tongue-in-cheek).

  1. Sam. He gets to cook and stuff; he loves smokin the pipe weed; he's fascinated with rope; and, he finds Frodo oh so ravishing. Seriously though, Sam is diehard, trustworthy, and would stick it out to the very end, no matter how great the odds were.
  2. Eowyn - for the reasons given above.
  3. At first I thought the shire because you get to slee lots, eat lots, and smoke lots. But that might get boring. Wait, what am I thinking. That would rock. But I would take side trips to rivendell now and again.
  4. Shelob and/or the Ents. I'm also interested in how Jackson works the whole huge climax after the 5th book and then you have 4 funerals and a wedding and a bunch of scrappy hobbits kickin ass? I just wonder if he'll stay faithful and put us all to sleep.
  5. Only once. I keep meaning to go back but just never seem to have the money or the will to make it happen. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it immensely and all, I just haven't gotten around to more viewings. It's still playing in a few theaters around here, so maybe this weeend. Although that DVD looks like it could be the final reason I need to get a DVD player. So then I could watch it over and over again in the comfort of my own apartment.

i wish i was in the woods, posted 31 May 2002 by moonboots » (Fixture)

  1. i wish i was tom bombadil. or a hornblower and dedicated to the cultivation and appreciation of that longbottom leaf.
  2. bregalad - wandering around the woods laughing at all the rocks and trees with an ent would be perfection.
  3. the southfarthing, natch. if i could go back in time, i'd pick moria in its heyday
  4. my favorite element has already been spoiled. the slow reveal and transformation of strider was hands-down the best part of the books for me, and they've fumbled that in ugly fasion already. this is odd, as i don't remember any unnecessarily tiresome and crushingly obvious forshadowing scene in rivendel in the FOTR book. that really put me off my dinner and i'm still not over it.
even so, i'm lookng forward to all the major battles, and the ents going from un-hasty to hasty and chewing shit up at isengard, and all the major battles, especaily Helm's Deep, which stands the best change of having justice done it, and The Passing of the Grey Company, which i bet will work very well, and then also all the major battles.
  5. once.
  6. yesterday.

maybe again tomorrow night, posted 16 Jul 2002 by raskol » (Fixture)

1.)Faramir - he would read books and play trash can softball, I just know it. Plus, he turns down the ring, knowing the whole time it is there for his taking.

2.)Aragorn. At the time of LOTR, Middle Earth was not a well travelled place. Each place between strongholds held treachery amd such. Yet he went into the wild at age 20, and traveled everywhere, seeking things out, learning much, serving much, you get the point. A bit more human than Gandalf, basically.

3.)At the time of LOTR, I would have enjoyed a place with Cirdan, at the Havens. With ships you could visit Gondor, with less worry than other travellers. Basically, it is the furthest place from Mordor, but you're not out of the loop, what with all the elves leaving that way.

4.)The Passing of the Grey Company & the War of the Ring [I hope they show the heads flying].

5.)13 times to date

6.)On that fateful thursday last.

your love of the halflings leaf, has clearly slowed your mind., posted 18 Jul 2002 by mercurymouth » (Fixture)

1. my dad has been reading these books over and over for more than half of his life, so i always listen to him in anything concerning tolkien. he told me that he thinks i'm like bilbo but also like arwen. i am very flattered by both. if i had to pick someone myself i would say maybe bill the pony. but i can't help but like what my dad says.

2. i would like to spend a lot of time with gollum. i can't really get enough of him.

3. i want to live in the shire. i love everything about it. it is safe and untouched and innocent. that is where i want to be. i want a little hobbit-hole and i would stay there, i think. but maybe i would miss mountains, "i want to see mountains again, mountains gandalf!"

4. i need to see the Ents... a lot. i want to watch the growth of the hobbits into warriors..i don't want to see shelob, at all, i look to that with much dread...i am curious as to how they are going to show the love/longing between aragorn and arwen...how they are going to give her more scenes in the film...i want to see it all..the first time i saw the trailer for two towers i didn't breathe through the whole thing, i forgot to.

5. tonight was my thirteenth time in the theatre. it is not enough, though. i would like to see it with jeremy wagner. i wonder if we weep at the same parts.

6. laundry can make or break a relationship. i think i read that somewhere.

my turn, posted 13 Aug 2002 by dogmanphil » (Fixture)

1. well, i guess i would see myself as sam. only because i think i am a good friend. not cause i really think i should be the main character or anything. just a loyal friend.

2. well, i really did legolas in the movies. i think he is my favorite character. but, i think aragorn would be rad to hang with. he seems chill. but, get the job done. i think he would have some cool stories to tell while having a pint or ten.

3. "frodo was now safe in the last homely house east of the sea. that house was, as bilbo had long ago reported, 'a perfect house, whether you like food or sleep or story-telling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all.' merely to be there was a cure for weariness, fear, and sadness." rivendell is the place for my vacation.

4. well, there is the ents, but i think it will be cool to see merry and pippin kick some evil ass. it's a toss up.

5. 7 i think i can't ... no eight? i can't remember but, i just saw it a couple days ago. we rented it.

6. dunno, jen does the laundry about twice a week.

1. Treebeard. Facial foliage is fun.

2. Galadriel. Not only is she beautiful, she'd have some damn good stories.

3. The Shire, specifically Brandybuck Hall. The Old Forest, Bombadil and Goldberry, are practically next door!

4. Pelennor Fields, when the Witchking of Angmar tries to enter Gondor and the arrival of the Rohirrim.

5. Three.

6. I plead the fifth.

1) Sauroman <or however you spell it> I wanna bust some shit up, he'll fall in the end, but he's takin' care of business RIGHT NOW. 2) Gandalf, I jus' wanna now what that leaf is. 3) Yeah, dude, the shire looks homely 4) I'll get back to you on that. 5) zero, I got the four disc DVD though, and I've watched that a good ten or so times. 6) last week, yeah

BTW. If you have the 4 disc set they have the MTV "prince albert" spoof hidden on the first disc, and the trailer for the two towers hidden on the second disc. Email me or call me, I don't want to type all that out here. ciao

SORRY!!! I would just edit it, but I don't know how., posted 4 Dec 2002 by neoacerbitas » (Fixture)

1. Hands down I want to be Quickbeam... the most rash and randy of all ents... There are a few lumberjacks, hunters and snowmobilers up here in the UP that I would like to put the strength of an ent up against. I still get the shivers everytime I think of the description of the response to men trying to hack at an ent with axes.

2. Treebeard... that ruddy old bastard knows more about the world than saruman, gandalf, sauron, and elrond put together, not to mention, he seems to be quite free with his ent wash.

3. well... If I were an ent, I wouldn't mind being in the care of Gladriel, so lothlorian would be the best of forests for me. but I would take a trip up to visit old tom bombadil and kick that willow's ass while I'm at it.

4. it's a toss between helms deep, specifically the contest between gimli and legolas (however I am afraid that mr. jackson will skip over that in lieu of some farcical scenes with minor female characters.) and, of course, any scene with the ents ripping up some major orc ass!

5. two

6. I did a load on saturday... I spilled salad dressing on my pants.

LOTR fans needed, posted 5 Dec 2002 by Cinnamongirl » (Fixture)

Hey--I am trying to buy my friend the new LOTR 4-disc set for Christmas. I looked on Amazon and saw it for $80! This seemed way too expensive. It also said "Special Collector's Edition." I assume this is some really special, and expensive, set if it is for collectors. Shouldn't the regular old (well not old since it's new, but regular) 4- disc set be cheaper? Where can I find it? (I asked L.L. about this too...waiting to hear back but I gotta get this soon because I'm going out of state). Thanks a lot--and I have read & enjoyed the books, I just have no attention span for movies.

Best Buy or Costco maybe Sams, posted 5 Dec 2002 by pedro » (Staff)

Best Buy has one with a National Geographic DVD packaged with it. Costco (maybe Sams too) has the regular 4-disc one for only twenty-five smackers.

I love em. Of all the wonderfully fancy ideas that came out of JRT's crazy brain, the idea of tree herders is by far the fanciest.(in my opinion.)

Don't get me wrong, all the other stuff is damn cool. The ancient architictur, oily-phaunts, Smeogl twisted by the ring, the fighting uruk-hai, shelob... all of it soooper cooool!!! but, being a lorax with stage fright, I tend to lean, with my passive aggressive nature, towards trees that absorb the blow of an axe and crumple the jack with one blow.

my answers..., posted 9 Dec 2002 by pedro » (Staff)

1. Frodo. I've always sort of had a martyr complex and felt very obligated and driven, so even though that's kind of a self important thing to say (and I recognize it) I feel it it just the same, so Frodo is definitely the character I indentify with the most. I think I'd rather be Aragorn or Gandalf, but that's just my desire to be larger than life. Sort of like when I was a kid and I wanted my name to be a cool name like Joe or Mike rather than a boring name like Peter. Also, know that I wouldn't have said any of this because of how ridiculous and whatever it sounds, but you asked and I'm trying to be honest.

2. I think I'd like to hang out with Gandalf and try to learn some of the stuff he knows. I'd also like to spend some time with Radagast, although I don't knwo if he counts since he's not in LOTR. Maybe Gandalf, Radagast, and I could have lunch or something. I'll bet Radagast and the Ents are tight.

3. Somewhere upriver from Minas Tirith. But not too far. Out of town but not remote. Either that, or I think it would be fun to live in the Grey Havens, or near there, and maybe become friends with Cirdan. That dude knows some great stories.

4. Helm's Deep and the Siege of Orthanc, as well as the final scenes on Mt. Doom. I'm also kind of excited to meet Ghan Buri Ghan.

5. 4 or 5. Including once with my dad and little sister. When the birds swarm over them before Caradrhas, my dad said, "I didn't know this was a Hitchcock movie!"

6. Over Thanksgiving when I was home. I do more laundry at home now than I did when I was in college!

okay, i've held off long enough, posted 11 Dec 2002 by lieutenant » (Fixture)

1. Faramir. "Not for . . .would I have this thing." Because only he and Aragorn have the strength necessary. Admiration is probably a better term.

2. Eomer. He'd have some stories. Also Wormtongue, because I could kick him around.

3. Probably Rohan, somewhere in the East Emnet near Fangorn. This of course requires that I leave off my mutual hatred of all things equine. (and no I still don't know how I ended up in the cavalry for a while.)

4. Helm's Deep for the second, Pelennor Fields and the entrance of Aragorn from the ships, with the entrance of the Rohirrim from the north for the third.

5. Once in the theatre. First movie I saw when I got back to the U.S. for our wedding.

6. This weekend.

1.boromir- i mean well, but i'm just corrupt.
2.bergalad-this is a tough call.i would like to say fangorn, but i think quickbeam would be more down for some adventuring.
3.i'd rebuild isengard and make it a monument to peace and prosperity.
4.i was most looking forward to the ents, and after seeing two towers,i have to say they did....ok.they could have focused more on them and showed the bond that was formed between treebeard and merry and pip and they could've put quickbeam in the movie, and they could've actually put the battlesong in there(the one that would've sent saruman running for the hills had he heard it).well, since they didn't put her in the two towers, i guess the part i'd most like to see in pt.3 would be her ladyship, shelob.
