Who owns who? Is the media fair? Inspired by reading CNN's movie and music reviews and wondering if the products were owned by their parent companies or not.

I was just reading CNN's review of Mooseport, and it's pretty scathing. Anyway, I want a place to log interconnections and references between media bias stuff.

Anyway, Mooseport:

bad review from CNN (Time-Warner) movie owned by Fox (News Corp.)

Is getting a huge push on CNN. It's on HBO.

They are both owned by Time-Warner.

I just wonder if they would similarly bomb their own movie... i guess that's what i'm here to do... not to prove that CNN is biased, but to kind of explore how they review/promote arts and entertainment.

here's an ongoing project to map corporate hierarchies and interconnections. it's a work in progress. if you see errors or have information to add, then by all means submit it.

here are the root nodes of several heirarchies with media intrests (note that there is no entry for fox yet):

i love this stuff...., posted 21 Feb 2004 by raskol » (Fixture)

I will spend too much of my days looking through these pages
though I always begin to wonder,
'who made the web page?'
but you can't go through life ignoring information even if you can't see the mouth it comes from...
inkblot, your link will keep calling me back and back
and I very much enjoyed seeing the donations listed, found at the URL pete listed above

*Phillip Morris donated 2.9 million to George W Bush in 2000*
Microsoft donated 2.4 million to get GW bush elected.
GENERAL ELECTRIC --
GE Plastics: produces military hardware and nuclear power equipment.
GE Transportation Systems: runs diesel and electric trains.
(donated 1.1 million to GW Bush for his 2000 election campaign)

of course that doesn't mean these are evil people; however, they have interets, interests as corporations that one could call special...and they have money to aid those interests.
but does a candidate have to take all the donations offered?

one can feel small.

according to registration info in the whois database, the domain is owned by abram stern of alameda, california. in all likelihood, he runs the site too. volunteers submit the information. i'm not sure by what rules volunteers are granted such access, or if there are rules. basically, though, it looks like the data is produced and maintained by a small army of regular people. i guess if you really wanted to know you could just become a volunteer and help fill in the blanks. or you could email aphid_23 at yahoo dot com. that's abram.

Thanks very much. Those are the types of things I would ponder but do nothing towards finding them out.
