well, i didn't think there was a better place to post this question, so i figured i'd just make a new entree. maybe it'll go the way of Athenian Style Chicken, or whatever. but i wanted to know about some of the new customers. post stuff related to that here.
so, is pedrosoldlady William? or Anna? at first i thought it would be Anna. but then it looks like somebody that lives with pedro, i.e. Captain Yarborough. im stumped. either way, its funny. and who are the rest of the newbies? i wish they'd post. it's always nice to have some fresh blood around this place.
I think that pedrosoldlady will have to identify hermself.
see, pedrosoldlady was created and posted in the diary since i logged on. and now pedro has posted. does that suggest that pedrosoldlady is perhaps using pedro's internet access? it might, but that doesn't get us any closer to the identity, as both WTY and Anna are both apt to do such a thing... hmm, astounding...
now pedrosoldlady has posted again!! and using language i would expect more from the Captain. but then again, i can't say that Anna wouldn't say it, either. this is a mindblowing case, Watson!
it could be pedro's "old lady." back in the day old lady was used as a term for your mom. maybe. maybe not. wink wink.
Because if you are, i'll kick your butt.
Someone should really email him and invite him to the diner. Guncheon too.
i DO know that Dahlin is living in the apartment across sawyer from Geor-- Victoria's closest to the alley. we gotta get that guy in the loop of the crew. what a solid, smart, funny cat. if somebody knows his address, email him. otherwise, i'll get it next time i see him. and tell him about the bbs. perhaps he has contact info for guncheon as well.
We're playstation snowboarding buddies
...playstation snowboarding.
perhaps i will be done with my Hertz Rental Car CSR training stuff here tomorrow. and then i will be able to come up that way and rock the PS2 with y'all. or maybe we can hook up Gene's and play some more Soccer.
...whaddya wanna know...?
hey, where;s your new place at? i could have sworn i saw Pete's can the other night on either Foster or Montrose just east of Clark a couple blocks. is that anywhere near you?
i of course meant pete's van.
i am a dork.
if you did drive a can, pedro, i'd be pretty impressed.
Well for starters, anna is my sister Anna. But you did see my can out that way -- alh's new place is just east of Glenwood on Foster. I was also parked down near Le Sabre a few nights ago, since we were... at Le Sabre.
But feel free to ask questions about anna.
How's it goin, sis?
well, welcome to the bbs, anna.
does that mean that pedrosoldlady is ALH?
since i know nothing about you, anna, how about you introduce yourself. and not just as pedro's sister. since that's not who YOU are, if you catch my drift.
I'm kinda used to just being pedro's little sister, which is totally NOT a bad thing, but as far as who _I_ am...hmmm... I'm a pre-vet student at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. (yay for corn) This summer I've been waitressing at a place about 20 miles from my house. The customers are mostly tourists and construction workers (not many locals), but it makes for some interesting nights.umm...yeah...interesting stuff...I don't really have any hobbies. I'm addicted to baseball; crappy little independent teams, not Major League stuff. I like to read and watch movies, neither of which I have done much this summer. This is the first time I've had a "real" full-time job.
So now I'm rambling. I need a question to go off. But I guess this is a start.
well, since there are a lot of Tolkien fans here, and i just watched FOTR, are you a fan? did you see the movie (i'll bet you did...)? what did you think?
what kind of stuff do you read? what music do you listen to? what makes you cry? what is a funny story about pedro that we probably don't know? are you married? if you were a kitchen utensil, what would you be?
others can answer, of course. but these are for anna.
You probably don't remember me, but maybe you do who knows? I know you're younger than me (Jen or Dex, take yer pick) by a couple a years and older than my brother (that'd be Nick Lehman) by a couple a years.Anywhoo, my question is...
What made you chose to be a vet when you grow up?
To dex: I just figured out who you are when I looked at the pics you posted a while back. Yes, I do remember who you are.I don't remember why I decided to be a vet, but I think I was 4 when I made my career decision. Probably because I do like working with animals and the title "Dr." sounds impressive.
baggins: I am a Tolkien fan. I've read the LOTR books and have seen FOTR 3 times. I started on the Silmarillion, but only read a little bit at a time (like 20 minutes or so), so I got a little bogged down trying to keep all the characters and things straight. I should probably start over. As far as other things I enjoy reading, I'm a fan of C.S. Lewis, George Orwell, and Ray Bradbury, so I guess I like the science fiction, what-would-happen-to-us-if kind of books (1984 for example).
Music? hmm...whatever pedro buys for me. Basically, not country, rap, or heavy metal. A lot of acoustic stuff. I like U2.
Pedro, being the older child, has far more funny/embarassing stories about me than I have of him, so I think I will have to decline to answer that question.
I am not married and I've never given much thought to being a kitchen utensil. I'll have to work on that one.
Okay, so this is kinda turning into the anna room. Where are all the other customers?
and im not telling.
you should get that mister badd guy on here, since you say he's so cool.
Hey pedro, I keep trying to certify loser David Oliver as a tourist but it won't take. What gives?
I didn't even realize that loser was on here! Hi, Dave!Anyway, to answer your question, since Tourist certification is the default (and lowest) level of certification, it is the same thing as not being certified at all.
But aside from the technical aspects, that's mean!
who is WilfareLane?
First of all it's not mean, it's me.Secondly, your talking about a guy whose son won't even look my way because whenever I run into the Oliver family on the street the first thing Dave says before 'Hello' is "Hey Ethan, stay away from that homeless man, you don't know what he might do!"
Thirdly, tourist is given as an option when certifying customers. However, although presented the option, we're not given the freedom to choose. Tyranny! Oppression!
But you are given the freedom to choose -- in certifying someone as tourist, you are de-certifying them. It may not SAY on their page that you certified them a tourist... but you did, whether you did it on purpose or via lack of action. Now, if you wanted to make a STATEMENT by certifying loser as a tourist, you're out in the cold. But your rabble-rousing non sequitur arguments will not stand against this administration! Guards!
Let's welcome with a warm round of applause for Insectaturk!
he's a big fat shit in the pants... believe you me.
I haven't had quite the verbal abuse from Mr. Oliver, but I have noticed that he always keeps himself between his offspring and my person. I remember more generic coments about care, but nothing quite so... true...
whenever i see him in his little running shorts with the stroller and Ethan tagging along, he always seems to project an attitude of fear of what i might do to his kids. sort of apprehensive, and at the same time trying to assure them that i'm not really a big monster.
he has these big tentacles that come out and the poison darts he shoots out of his back are hard to ignore. aieeeee
Hi cheetah, known to some of you as Nate Leafgren!
There are lots of new customers around the place these days...the place sure is filling up.
to niiann, also known as Kristin Sarah Shimmin!
pull up a seat niiann
who the f is this?
But since they only posted in Airwolf vs. Blue Thunder, and since their name is Airshark, and since we are now the number one hit for "Airwolf vs. Blue Thunder," I'm guessing they're a blow in.Something to consider is that at a certain point, we're going to get a lot of blow ins, probably... it's sort of one of those eventualities of any successful open online community. I've been thinking about making account creation by-request only when that sad day comes.
*shudder*
welcome, neoacerbitas.tom is my roomate. he is rad. i inherited him from alaric.
Ok. So I don't actually know ConeyIsland...but I think it sucks to be just a tourist as you can't really post anything, so I certified away. But let's all avoid our apathetic alter-egos and be friendly. Maybe ConeyIsland will tell us all about himself...
My question is which Michigan University do you work at and doing what?
And my question is, why did you pick "ConeyIsland" as your username? What's the significance to you.Old long since gone
Now way back when

welcome to our diner. please tell us about yourself. we don't discriminate that much (depending on who you ask). there is a wealth of *literature* on here that if you read you can get to know a lot of us by. i guess my real question is: do you enjoy listening to Guns N Roses? if not, are you over 37 years old?
also welcome to BigJ and Pmack. cool cats if i ever did meet any.
I can't vouch for Pmack, but I know I am one cool cat, just kidding Patrick you're da bomb. A little bit about me:When typing on bulletin boards I tend to write completely insane things that are off the wall, but funny in my own head.
I live on the north side of Chicago, but work an hour west, which sucks. I am a quality flavor technician for Wrigley Chewing Gum, which means lots of free gum. I know most of the people on the boards, and some of them on the sheets, *wink wink* I like walks on warm moonlit beaches, candles, potpouri, small furry woodland creatures, and Guns and Roses, but only in moderation. I don't like, armpits, like Butte Montana (yuck) or grandma's tongue, if you know what I'm talking about I'm sure you agree. That's all for me, and now back to smelling peppermint.
I'm sure I agree, but I don't know what you're talking about.
your world is a much safer and better place, not knowing. please, nobody ruin it for anybody blessed enough NOT to know.
who's this chester cat? KHendrickson?
I don't know who else was our high league councelor that might show up on the board, so it must be the one the only Ken-e Ken Ken Ken.
so does this mean that ken has given up on work and has joined the dinner? it was inevitable that you would give in and join. ah hahaha!
...but finally succumbed! Bwahahahah!
thank God that patrick mckenna joined. that made my month.
I could be Matt Tolic. That would be a twist huh? Bwahahaha. Maybe I'll try to get him on here...
If you were Matt Tolic I would drop a load in my pants in surprise! Well maybe not, but I would be surprised. What is that crazy cat up to?
He should be checking out this crazy diner sometime today. He's up in MN.
i miss that guy. hope he does come around the dinner. in fact his meal and coffee is on me!
It'd be good to get him here, actually I think everyone should be in here, I wonder if the bbs can handle 250 million members?
I always called STEVE DAHLIN that in my mind, as a joke. Real funny. Anyway, my sister works with Steve at Francis Parker, aka the SNOB SCHOOL. He def. belongs in the Diner. I will call my sister to get his work # and hook it up.
who's this?welcome, cinnamongirl
and for all the celebrating pmack's arrival... he has yet to post a thing! i need my mckenna fix! i guess writing novels in 20ft of snow is hard work. "they got the 'net up there?"
Abbadon is the one the only Mike Montilla, it's his AOE name so I don't know who else would use it.
but its good to have mikey here. talk about a snowball eh pedro? welcome to heidi as well.
welcome Dahlin. i certified you so you can bless us with your prose...
it's really great to have misslady in the diner.
we love you, misslady!
hi sweetie. how are things in Hungary? we miss you terribly here. glad to see your eshiningface here, though.
Why aren't they on this beast?
I think that Noah and HEather have been in transit for the last oh say year and a half, and as such have no reliable internet access, they're moving to Arizona soon, and then probably back here in May, they can't stay still for very long. However, I am quessing that they will get on in May, you never know if they'll have access in AZ.
saw the two of them tonite at a little place called the 'wood. (ever heard of it?)those two are trying to set some record for "longest honeymoon ever."
yeah. i've actually showed n the site. i don't think they are very into the tech thing. as in too damn lazy to get on a computer to see what their friends have to say and think and feel and joke about. not that they don't love us, but their outlook on life isn't super tech- oriented. or maybe they're just lame and im making excuses.
I don't think of the diner as being some kind of ultra high tech thing. Maybe we all need to get webcams and video-conferencing software.
but anything that involves significant periods of time in front of a computer is highly unlikey to ensnare the likes of H+N. besides, their constant travel flux makes it hard for them to do anything like that. i dont know. like i said, im probably just making excuses, and they are just lazy, or whatever.
some people just don't dig interacting this way. i don't blame them. the day I start thinking that everyone should like computers at all (let alone as much as I do) is the day I need to quit working with them, because they'll have infected my brain.Computers are just tools.
"Computers are just machines, they can't think..."
"Some programs will be thinking soon."
"*snicker* Won't that be grand? The computers will start thinking and the people will stop!"
-- From the 1982 Documentary TRON
"computers allow human beings to make big mistakes faster than any other invention with the possible exeptions of tequila and handguns."--(i cant remember whom this quote is attributed to, but i like it... seing as though ive made pretty big mistakes with all three.)
I will get a webcam and videoconferencing software when Mordor starts ice-skating lessons . . .
orc-speed skating, and a duet routine with Sauron and Nancy Kerrigan.
welcome to the diner, nunnybun and josekenobi. baggins loves you.
It good to see you josekenobi in the diner.
i'd like to take this space right here to celebrate barefootjumer's return to the diner.now, if only alaric would come back...
outsideinfluence, ive only met you a few times, but i'm glad you're here.
I'm really glad to see all y'all. and barefootjumper's return is especially welcome, and josekenobi's appearance was most unexpected and appreciated.
welcome the diner
I just read the earlier posts on my sudden appearance. At the time, I was still trying to figure out what new entree's were and how they were accessed and what they were about...etc. I'm sorry that I didn't reply. Here's some explanations behind "ConeyIsland81"My name is Bernie...male...
I was born April 12, 1979 - 23 years old.
Born in the Upper Peninula (U.P.) of Michigan - lived in Marquette.
ConeyIsland - I'm into old amusement parks...and Coney Island is America's playground...I also have a fascination with the place because it declines in popularity each year, yet it continues to stay open. Also, when people made their way to the U.S. in search of a new life, the first thing they saw wasn't the Statue of Liberty, it was the Coney Island Parachute Drop.
81...I like that number. Don't know why.
I graduated from (and work for) C. Michigan University as a Web Developer.
Found this board by searching for Chicago employment and Computer Programming related things..(what a combination right?) and this site popped up. It looked good and the conversations seemed interesting so I wanted to get in on the action.
I'm sorry if it seemed like I crashed the place...but thus far, everybody has been really great. Thank You.
i for one have enjoyed your participation here.
perhaps we should have a thread where we all introduce ourselves as much as possible. i mean, i know there is a spot for that on our 'profiles' but maybe we need to get people to rewrite and rethink their introduction to such a growing and happenin place. i don't know. whatcha think pedro?
I think if people have a good idea for an entree that isn't already one, they should do it! And that sounds like a good idea to me.Coney, I'm also glad that you "crashed" the place. We may mostly know each other in real life, but kindred spirits finding this place is an inevitability. Another inevitability is people who are unkindred finding this place, but that's another issue altogether. But I'm glad you're here.
And I'm glad elise is here too! She's a friend of mine from San Francisco and was my gracious host while I was there for Nick's wedding.
So baggins or coney, by all means create said entree.
in case any of you missed it, i posted a huge self-involved letter in my diarybut i'd just like to say that i haven't spent this much time on the computer since my last finals week of college. you have all given me a lot to laugh about and think about.
Thanks.
i really should have made this post eariler, but those of you who dont know chris, (scinatfilm) he is quite a guy. look foreward to the level of witty banter to be kicked up a tiny notch here at the diner.
oh, and he'll see more movies than you this year, too.
I haven't been to the cinema since 1998, so he's probably way ahead of me already.
Hi evienoel2003, tell us a little about yourself!
welcome to Fook. he rules old school.
who is evienoel? i dont think i know you. which is cool. but tell me about you.
that i think that it's really funny that half of the people that are certified as "fixture" don't bother to show their faces around here.
i think i counted 72 total registered users listed in the customers page... that's a lot.
he sure got a warm welcome, but...where did he go?
have the internet in alaska yet, they're still clearing trees
Do we want this place to become a big thing? Or is this place just supposed to be for "us". I never really feel sure if i should tell people about it.
I think that we should tell people who we think *should* be here. That's probably different for you than it is for me. But then again, i was never friends with everyone at George's.If we get swamped by new subscriptions, or flooded from the net or whatever, I'll lock down account creation to by-request only. But neo, if you think you know someone who would "belong" here, then you should probably tell them.
I don't think you should post about this place on another bulletin board or something. If it ever got seriously big, all the intimacy of it would go right out the window, I can pretty much guarantee that.
i doubt too many people who don't know us would be interested. Coney is awesome, but a bit of an anomaly. im glad he's here. but i don't think there are too many people like him out there. if it gets huge, we'll just ignore them (i.e. dont certify them) and let them have diary privileges only.
exclusivity kinda sucks, but, it can be a worthwhile tool.
i've told a few people about this board. some of them are now members. there are people i know that i *won't* tell about it. because i don't think they'd mesh well on here. but, that's ok.
i can only think of a few other people that belong on here that aren't. like wiberg, n+h, bsmith, bbirkey, and tbone.
dude he needs to get up in this joint!
[I am about to be a brat....]
If I was a new customer to the Diner, trying to get my bearings, I might click on this entree thinking, "Well, I'm sort of a new customer." And, at first, it would seem all friendly and swell with the whole welcome bit and tell us about yourself stuff.... Then, I'd get to these last couple entries and think that this talk of "exclusivity" really sucks, and I'd leave the Diner. Thus, we may lose some very lovely, as-yet unmet friends... I mean, I don't think that this is the sort of place to attract mass attention.... But, the people who visit and look around and decide to stay for a while are probably people we'd like to know.... IMHO (now, that I know what that means, Pedro :)
I stand by my earlier remarks. I hope that people wouldn't be turned off by talk of "exclusivity" -- and perhaps these posts will mitigate that -- and I am more than excited about more good people becoming a part of this community. It's been awesome to have Coney here out of the blue. But I also am concerned about party poopers. So if you're new and cool, join our diner and post!
If you're going to be a nuisance, save us all the headache and go somewhere else!
we're a pretty accepting crew, all told. we just expect something from people, which is an open mind, a warm heart, and a sense of humor. that's not much to ask, but most of the lame-o's out there lack one of the three.
im all about having more cool people in here. whether i know them now or not. so anybody who's got something to say here, sign up, wait til we certify you (which should almost 100% be within 24 hours of sign up) and let us know what's on your mind.
i wasn'tsuggesting that we (or I) go about and try to build the biggest online community ever...i was just wondering...i feel like this is mostly an "i lived in burgh hall 1998-1999" community and was just wondering what the "mission statement" was kinda
i cant believe you did that pedro.... so funny....
i like the addition.
Actually, mine would be "I Desk Sat in Burgh in the Wee Hours of Thursday Morning While baggins Did the CrossWord Puzzle, and pedro Wandered the Halls Enroute to or From Java Haus."
Am I still invited to this bbs? I visited Burgh Hall a few times in 1998ish time frame, does that count?
And I'll take it down in a day or so.
I was being silly Pedro.
so was I!
Maybe I should go to bed at 1 AM instead of hanging out on the internet and I'd read better.I miss vocal inflection. I'm going to be in town for Renee's wedding Easter weekend, then head to L.N. until Wednesday following Easter, and again for 2 - 3 weeks in the summer (Anna and I are going to escape the heat). Maybe I can hear your voice and even see you on one of those trips, Pedro. You've yet to meet the small one.
pedro.

these people all lived there at some point during the 1998-1999 year, and if you count people that have just lived in burgh period, the only things people here have more in common is sexuality and gender. Anyway, this makes me happy that i don't come here with life questions...otherwise the front page would say something like:
"TTI diner: if you're reading this you're not cool enough to be here"
tom, are you drunk?
of course it's a quater after eight now...gimme an hour before i try to make the pain go away...i mean gimme some credit
Is a deep and undying love... for you, Tom.
pedro i hereby official refer you to my antipenultimate post
what we have in common? my parents think it odd that a very high ratio of my friends are children of professors and pastors. Not that they mind. Neoacerbitas, you were my favorite person in burgh hall. Think Akira and bourbon. But really, are we a less welcoming chat room than any other? I think not.
Pedro and Baggins...thanks for the kind comments...it made my day.
did you realize that we had about a billion people join the diner in december and january, but not a single one in february? interesting...
I sent the info to mr. jelani greenidge aka the chocolate jello man aka g-natural, but he hasn't bothered to show his face here. maybe he doesn't like us anymore. those of you inchicago, feel free to stop by covenant bookstore and harrass him about the diner
who is this?
he's an lnx-bbc hacker. and also a nationally syndicated humourist.
How's it goin'?
does anybody know what happened to pmack? I tried to email him a few weeks ago but i got nothing, not even a hint, I tried a few months before that too. Just wondering.
...but I met a kid last weekend who had his mom for an english teacher....small world.
to hear from or about patrickmckenna/i miss him a lot.
to run into air-e-el mar-ks the other day, she's the last person that has seen him as far as I know. She doesn't know what his deal is either, of course she has dreadlocks right now too so who knows.
now there's a person I haven't thought about in a loooooooooong time.
but for some reason i can't think of what she looks like or who she is...maybe i am getting thrown off by the dreadlocks?
She didn't have them before. Short, thin, shoulder length strawberry-red/blond hair, english or philosophy major I think... english. she transferred in. she wrote in the trampost, friends with pmack.
I love @riel. and since this is New Customer Veal TarTar, she would be awesome on the Diner. she's a great writer and has a lot of good thoughts to share.Yo Tom, can you tell me her phone #/contact info/anything? i haven't seen her in a few years but would love to get back in touch with her. i know she wouldn't mind your giving me her info., 'cause we were buds back in the day and just sort of lost touch. (i mean, i don't see why she'd mind). you can e-mail me at mlledoyleAThotmail.
and if you don't know anything on how to find her, that's all good, too. that was the burgh summer of, um, '99? livin' it up. me & ariel were RAs, Neo, Scinat, my sis, lots of cool people I can't all recount right now in da house. or in the dorm, whatever. those were good times. '
It was great to see BOTH doyles AND big j-o-e s-t-e-p-h-a-n! I haven't seen that guy in a super long time, but seriously, I think he's the bomb.
...we gotta get him on here.
I told him about the Diner last night. When I see him tomorrow, I'll give him the URL.
what URL means, but I felt cool using a word that was all technical like that.
universal resource locater or some shit? i saw it in the mla handbook the other day as it was speeding towards my forehead.cinnamongirl I actually didn't get her digits, she's in AZ now doing a masters program though, Dahnyell Mickgown has her stuff though, but i don't know how to get ahold of her either.
there's lots of names of people I haven't thought about in a long time floating around here. Kind of cool, and get Joe on here, he's the bomb diggity.
i want joe on here ASAP he rules and he is a great poet and he is really cool and listens to metal
Yeah, Cinnamon, that totally took me back to the summer of 99, when we was in tha house.I miss ariel too
fond memories of when i was an NPU virgin, only yet to be raped over the coals
aargh.yeah. get JS on here with a quickness.
hey, why don't some of you say a little about your self?
to be a new member of this community. I stumbled upon this website while searching for an acquaintance on Google.com. And I can't figure out how to access it - ?? Anyway, I graduated from North Park in 2003...I sort of disappeared to England for my senior year, which worked out beautifully. I am living in St. Paul for the coming year, doing freelance music stuff, teaching, etc. etc. Can't wait to go back to school for conducting. Other than that, lovin' life!
i just noticed senorluna has an account on here! wahoo! welcome!
DDGurl216: welcome, DDGurl... care to introduce yourself?
Care to introduce yourself to those who don't know you and/or tell us what you've done for the last few years? For the record, we do not use real names of anyone here on the diner. We like our openness, but we like our privacy, too. Thanks for coming!
stan -- how did you escape the 5th degree? Would you care to introduce yourself to everyone?
Pedro, thanks for telling me. I didn't know about the name thing...Anyway, a quick introduction for those of you who don't know me. I graduted from North Park in 2000 and took a relatively brainless yet promotable position at Arthur Andersen. Then a little incident regarding Enron came to light & the firm dissolved. For the past 1 1/2 years, I've been at a Chicago-based marketing consulting firm. I'm usually one of about three people in the office on any given day, which makes me quite lonely. I am naturally on the introverted side, but having zero social contact for 1/3 of my life is stanky.
What would I like to be doing for a living? I have no frykin' idea. I suppose one doesn't make much money napping, playing with hamsters and fingerpainting. *sigh*
sometimes, when you read people's posts, you find jokes that are only funny to you. :) good to hear from you again, Warggle. There are others that don't have any "frykin" idea about what they should be doing for a living, and those who have too many ideas. :) The way I figure it, no matter what you're doing, if you find Dilbert funny at least once a month, you're not in any real danger of harm.
....doesn't the fact that I did escape it say enough about me? <grin>
Yeah, I thought about that.
the quiet observer.
do you remember me? i'm heidi--twin sister sarah. good times back in the day in ohlson house. it's nice to see you!
jkf - I'm glad you caught the frykin' joke. I made it just for you. But what is this "you only want to make that mistake with her once" stuff? C'mon, you know I only bite people that I like!Cinnamongirl, I'm delighted to see you on here. It's been way, way too long.
Lara- We use some names, but not full names. We don't want D3nny googling himself and finding the mean things that we say about him. So name drop all that you want, ju$t d0 1t cr3@t1velY.
Using firstnames alone is almost always acceptable -- using nicks (a la pedro) is almost always better.
Hi there... welcome to the Diner. What brings you to the friendly confines?
...care you introduce yourselves?
pendergast and popeoftrash.I know pendergast, so i certified him as regular.
care to introduce yourselves to the rest of the crew?
...here is a picture of me for the gallery (finally).PS. I don't normally look like that :)
